A therapy dog program at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is bringing comfort and joy to young patients, with the newest addition, Goldie the golden retriever, starting his first day on the job.
Goldie, introduced by nonprofit ECAD Service Dogs, is already providing emotional support through play and snuggles, helping children feel more at home during treatment. Goldie joins other therapy dogs like Amber and Sepot from Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire Rescue’s Community Support Unit. These dogs not only assist in hospitals but also participate in community events and school visits, helping to build connections between law enforcement and the public.
Sepot is named in honor of Officer Jennifer Sepot, who died from COVID in 2021, and now serves as a symbol of her legacy through the comfort he brings to others. Officials emphasize how therapy dogs are becoming essential in both healthcare and community outreach.
