At CV-TEC in Plattsburgh, New York, students are finding emotional support in an unexpected friend—Blu, a deaf, three-year-old Australian Shepherd and certified therapy dog.
Visiting twice a week, Blu brings calm and comfort to students dealing with academic and personal pressures. Despite being born deaf, Blu communicates through hand signals and sign language, offering a unique and powerful connection.
Students like senior Luke Boskey-Bouchard say Blu has become an important part of their school experience, helping them manage stress and feel at ease. Blu visits classrooms across campus—from the salon to the auto shop—and even travels to other schools like Saranac Middle School. He’ll soon join students on a trip to Syracuse for the New York State SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Championships. Staff say Blu reinforces their “You Matter” message, helping build community and reminding students they’re cared for—one wagging tail at a time.
