K9 Ultra, a German Shepherd and Dutch Shepherd mix, serves as an explosive detection dog with the United States Coast Guard.
Ultra is stationed with the Coast Guard’s Maritime Safety and Security Team New York in Staten Island, where he works with handler Petty Officer 1st Class Alaina Whitaker.
Trained to detect dangerous explosives, Ultra helps protect major public events, motorcades, and important locations. His powerful sense of smell allows him to identify threats that might otherwise go unnoticed. Through constant training, Ultra and Whitaker have built a strong partnership that allows them to work effectively in high-security situations. Although based in New York, the team often travels across the country to help provide security at large national events.
