Facility Dog Levi Helps Victims Find Comfort at Missouri Courthouse

Clayton,
MO -

At the St. Louis County Courthouse in Missouri, a Labrador retriever named Levi is helping victims and staff cope with difficult moments.

Levi, a trained facility dog working with the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, provides emotional support to people facing traumatic situations in court. Donated by the nonprofit Duo Dogs about eight years ago, he is specially trained to work in high-stress environments such as hospitals, schools, and courthouses.

Levi often assists children who have experienced abuse, helping them feel safe enough to share their stories. Some sit beside him during meetings or hold his leash as they walk into court, giving them a sense of comfort and control.

His presence also helps prosecutors, investigators, and advocates manage the emotional toll of their work. Staff say that in a place defined by serious cases and legal arguments, Levi offers something simple but powerful—quiet comfort on four paws.
