A pit bull mix named Ace is being praised for helping save another dog during a house fire in Cleveland, Ohio.

As firefighters battled the blaze on March 6, Ace suddenly became restless and began pulling toward a boarded-up basement window. His owner, Richard Keith Taylor, alerted firefighters after noticing the dog’s reaction.

Firefighters checked the basement and found a small brown dog trapped inside, frightened but unharmed. Taylor had earlier helped rescue an elderly woman from the burning home.

The Cleveland Division of Fire credited Ace’s keen nose for leading crews to the trapped pet, making the four-legged companion an unexpected hero.
