Litchfield Fire Rescue in New Hampshire is warning residents about dangerous ice conditions after crews rescued a dog that wandered onto a frozen area Sunday afternoon.
Officials say responders were called shortly after 2 p.m. to the area near Locke Mill Drive following reports that a dog had walked out onto the ice. Firefighters wearing specialized ice-rescue gear were able to reach the animal and bring it safely back to shore, where it was reunited with its owner.
Authorities are reminding the public to use extreme caution around frozen lakes and ponds. They also urge residents not to attempt rescuing pets or animals on their own and instead call emergency services for trained assistance.
