Jessie Holmes claimed a repeat victory in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Tuesday, finishing the nearly 1,000-mile race in Alaska.
Holmes, a former cast member of Life Below Zero, celebrated with raised fists as spectators cheered. His 12-dog team, led primarily by standout dogs Polar and Zeus, completed the race after traversing mountain ranges, the frozen Yukon River, and hazardous Bering Sea ice.
The race began March 8 in Willow following a ceremonial старт in Anchorage. Holmes now becomes just the third musher in the event’s 54-year history to win back-to-back titles after a first victory. The only others to achieve the feat were Susan Butcher (1986–1987) and Lance Mackey (2007–2008), both of whom went on to claim four championships.
