A viral video showing a pit bull chained in the back of a pickup truck on the 5 Freeway has sparked outrage and a push to find the dog a new home.
The dog, named West, was later taken to the North Central Animal Shelter after the footage spread online. Animal advocate Kris Kelly said West suffered neck injuries believed to be caused by the chain.
Shelter officials say West is receiving medical care and could soon be available for adoption. The case has also renewed concerns about overcrowded animal shelters in Southern California. Authorities have not said whether animal cruelty charges will be filed.
