Chilean film “La Perra” won the 2026 Palm Dog award at the Cannes Film Festival, honoring the event’s top canine performance.
Director Dominga Sotomayor said the film’s dogs, Yuri and Tormenta, were rescued and untrained, adding authenticity to the story about a woman bonding with an abandoned puppy.
The annual Palm Dog ceremony drew dog lovers, filmmakers and plenty of pups to the Cannes beachfront celebration. Another top prize went to Lola, a border terrier mix featured in the British film “I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning.” Founded in 2001, the Palm Dog award celebrates standout canine performances at Cannes alongside the festival’s human stars.
