A Stockton University police K-9 team has captured a national championship after earning a perfect score in an explosives detection competition against more than 100 law enforcement agencies from across the country.
Tracy Stuart and her K-9 partner Freya won the explosives detection division at the United States Police Canine Association 2026 National Detector Dog Trials, held this week at Harrah’s Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The competition tested K-9 teams in odor recognition and searches of parcels, vehicles, and rooms to locate hidden explosives. Freya, a 10-year-old golden retriever, previously won a national title with Stuart in 2022. Stuart said the victory was emotional and could mark Freya’s final competition because of the dog’s age, though Freya will continue serving with the Stockton University Police Department.
