Military working dog Eerek, a decorated explosives detection canine, is set to retire in 2027 after years of service. He recently received the K-9 York Award, the U.S. Army’s highest honor for military working dogs.
Throughout his career, Eerek supported security operations for major events and high-level officials, including presidential administrations. He also took part in explosives detection missions at major national events such as the Army’s 250th birthday celebration and the Kentucky Derby.
As he approaches retirement, Eerek will live with his handler, Staff Sgt. Thomas Dove. Army officials say the award recognizes the dog’s exceptional service and lasting contribution to military operations.
