Officials in Lancaster County, South Carolina are offering a $1,600 reward for information after a female dog named Hope was found in critical condition on a rural roadside on June 16.

The elderly dog was severely underweight, infected, and covered in matted fur when brought to the Lancaster County Animal Shelter. Veterinarians also found serious paw deformities, with signs consistent with possible rickets caused by long-term malnutrition.

Animal welfare officials believe Hope was likely abandoned and may have suffered prolonged neglect, noting she was unable to walk, eat, or drink on her own. The Lancaster County SPCA and sheriff’s office are investigating and asking the public for tips.
