Bloodhounds and their handlers from 17 law enforcement teams across eight states gathered on Florida’s Suncoast for the Annual True Blue Bloodhounds, Inc. K-9 Training and Re-Certification, held from July 6 to July 11.
The weeklong program uses realistic search scenarios to help bloodhounds track missing people or suspects through challenging environments filled with distractions and overlapping scents. Handlers also receive training on reading their dogs’ body language and providing emergency K-9 first aid and CPR.
The training includes overnight search exercises and medical preparedness to ensure both handlers and dogs are ready for real-world rescue and law enforcement missions. Organizers said the realistic conditions help build confidence and improve the teams’ lifesaving skills.
