The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office has announced the retirement of Bosco, the agency’s celebrated “million-dollar dog,” after eight years of service in law enforcement.
Bosco worked alongside Deputy Jon Samuelson in the department’s Highway Interdiction Unit, where the K-9 team targeted drug trafficking operations along major highways. During his career, Bosco helped seize more than $3.3 million in drug-related cash, over 55 kilograms of cocaine, more than 2,000 pounds of marijuana, thousands of THC cartridges, fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, gold bars, and multiple vehicles.
The sheriff’s office said the decision to retire Bosco comes as Deputy Samuelson continues recovering from critical injuries after being shot three times at a Michigan City hospital in May. Officials said retiring Bosco marks the end of an accomplished career while allowing the veteran K-9 to enjoy retirement after years of dedicated service.
