A small, severely emaciated dog is on the mend and capturing hearts worldwide after being left for dead inside a trash bag by the side of a Germantown road in Philadelphia.

The dog, appropriately named Rocky, was discovered after a local resident heard his cries coming from the roadside and quickly alerted the community online. Despite being left in critical condition and suffering from extreme malnutrition, Rocky managed to chew his way out of the bag just in time for help to arrive.

Thanks to a coordinated effort by quick-thinking Good Samaritans and the rescue team at GoodBoy Dog Recovery, Rocky was rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital for intensive care.
