A Colorado Springs police dog, K9 Tre, is set to receive specialized bullet- and stab-resistant body armor in honor of retired K9 Roam, who was seriously injured in the line of duty.
Roam was wounded in October 2025 after being stabbed multiple times while assisting officers during an arrest involving a barricaded suspect in northeast Colorado Springs. He underwent emergency surgery, including the amputation of his left hind leg, and officially retired from service in January 2026.
The protective vest, donated by nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., is valued at approximately $1,800 and will feature the message, “In honor of K9 Roam.” The vest is expected to arrive within the next 10 weeks.
