Sugar, a 16-year-old surfing dog and local legend, rode what may be her final wave over the weekend as she continues to battle cancer.

Crowds gathered Saturday at Huntington Beach to cheer on the celebrated pup as she surfed alongside her owner one more time.

Sugar earned international fame in the sport of dog surfing, winning the World Dog Surfing Championship five times and becoming the first animal ever inducted into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame.

Fans and beachgoers turned out in large numbers to celebrate the beloved dog’s legacy and watch her return to the waves.
