The PEDIGREE Foundation has named Teddy, a senior rescue dog, as its 2026 Rescue Dog of the Year, using his story to highlight the benefits of adopting older pets.
Rescued from a hoarding situation, Teddy arrived at a senior dog rescue with multiple health issues, including anxiety, dental disease and a heart murmur. After receiving medical care and time in foster care, he gradually regained confidence and became an ambassador dog at adoption events, where he met his eventual owner.
Now thriving in his adoptive home through a seniors-for-seniors program, Teddy is described as affectionate and friendly. By sharing his journey, the PEDIGREE Foundation aims to encourage more people to consider adopting senior dogs, which are often overlooked in shelters despite their strong companionship qualities.
