Kirtland Air Force Base recently celebrated the retirement of Hugo, a nine-year-old German Shepherd military working dog, after seven years of service.
A ceremony on June 4, 2025, honored Hugo’s accomplishments, which include over 9,000 hours of narcotics detection and patrol work. During his career, he completed 2,530 facility sweeps, 1,256 vehicle sweeps, and supported 17 narcotics raids for 15 squadrons. Hugo now lives in retirement with one of his former handlers in California.
