Poodle Nilo has joined a dog rescue team at Las Lindes beach near Malaga, Spain, working alongside four Labradors to help lifeguards tow swimmers to safety.
At two years old, Nilo stands out with his fluffy white coat and life vest, as rescue squads typically use Labradors and Newfoundlands. His handler, Miguel Sanchez-Merenciano, explained that while Poodles were originally bred for water work in northern Europe, Nilo required gradual training due to an initial fear of noise and crowds.
Now, Nilo swims expertly, using his tail like a rudder. Poodles are known for their intelligence and learning ability.
