Stanley, a three-legged pit bull from Clearwater, Florida, is saving lives as a canine blood donor at Blue Pearl Animal Hospital.

After surviving a car accident as a puppy thanks to a blood transfusion, Stanley now gives back by donating blood—18 times so far, helping nearly 54 dogs. His universal blood type makes him an ideal donor. His owner, Jen Joern, hopes Stanley’s story raises awareness about pet blood donation.

Veterinarians warn of a national pet blood shortage. Dogs over 50 pounds and cats over 10 pounds can donate if they’re healthy and calm. Pet owners are encouraged to ask their vets about donation programs to help save other animals in need.
