A dog that disappeared after a winter car crash in Maine has been reunited with his family more than a month later.
Moose, a 5-year-old rottweiler–boxer mix from Thomaston, ran off Jan. 10 when his family’s vehicle slid off a snowy road near Unity. After weeks without sightings, two snowmobilers spotted the dog Jan. 26 while checking trails in Montville but were unable to catch him.
A photo posted online helped volunteers identify Moose and launch a search effort. On Feb. 16, one of the snowmobilers spotted him again, and the pair managed to capture the dog. Moose, who lost about 40 pounds and traveled nearly 30 miles during his time in the woods, was taken to safety and reunited with his family. He is now recovering at home.
