Valerie, an 8-pound dachshund, has been safely rescued after going missing for 529 days on Australia's rugged Kangaroo Island.

The dog vanished during a family vacation in November 2023, and despite her owners having to return home, local volunteers and Kangala Wildlife Rescue continued the search.

Valerie, elusive and scared of humans, was spotted occasionally but evaded capture. After more than a year, rescue efforts intensified with tracking, treats, and toys from home.
