Liberty Dogs in Nevada is saving dogs from high-capacity, high-euthanasia shelters in California by training them to become service animals for veterans with PTSD.

Dogs are selected based on temperament, focusing on social, large-breed adults, and enter a shelter foster program while undergoing training.

Foster families provide daily care, with options including long-term (six to nine months), weekend, or short-term (up to three days) placements. If dogs do not qualify as service animals, they may become hearing, therapy, facility, or comfort dogs—or be adopted by their foster families.

The program gives at-risk shelter dogs a second chance while supporting veterans in need.
