A growing number of Maine pet owners are turning to professional photographers to capture “end-of-life” and tribute sessions for aging or terminally ill pets.

Photographers like Debra Bell of Bell’s Furry Friends Photography and Danielle Travers of Soul Friends Fur-tography say the sessions focus on preserving meaningful final memories with beloved animals, often held in parks or familiar outdoor settings.

Pet owners describe the photos as deeply emotional keepsakes, while photographers encourage booking sessions early before a pet’s health declines.

The trend has grown into a significant part of local pet photography businesses, with community support and related events such as an upcoming Pet Expo in Bangor on May 17.
