A community in Maine has come together, raising thousands of dollars to help save a puppy whose story has deeply moved many.
Rico was critically injured in a car accident in Buxton, suffering a shattered jaw and severe nerve damage. Unable to afford the costly treatment, his owners made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him so he could receive life-saving care.
A fundraiser launched by a local animal control officer raised over $21,000. Rico has since undergone multiple surgeries, including a leg amputation, and continues to recover with a strong, friendly spirit. Now recovered enough for the next chapter, Rico is available for adoption through Midcoast Humane’s Brunswick campus. Remaining donations will help establish “Rico’s Fund” to support other animals needing emergency care.
