A Fort Lauderdale Police K-9 in Florida is recovering after being shot while responding to a burglary call over the weekend, authorities said.
The K-9, Appie, was deployed Saturday evening during a reported residential burglary in the 1600 block of Northwest 16th Court. During the pursuit, Appie confronted the fleeing suspect and was shot in the shoulder after the suspect allegedly drew a firearm.
Appie, who has served with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since 2023, is scheduled to undergo surgery and is expected to survive. The suspect, 31-year-old Christian Bouie, was arrested after a SWAT confrontation. Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene, and he was injured after being bitten by K-9 Appie. He now faces multiple charges, including harming a police animal and illegal firearm possession as a convicted felon.
