Which States Had the Most Dog Attacks on USPS Mail Carriers?

Los Angeles,
CA -

Dog attacks on mail carriers remain a concern across the United States. The U.S. Postal Service reported more than 5,200 dog attacks on postal employees in 2025, marking a decline from the previous year.

California recorded the highest number of dog attacks on USPS employees, with 673 reported incidents. Texas ranked second with 358 attacks, followed by Ohio (287), New York (269), and Pennsylvania (267). At the city level, Los Angeles led the nation with 70 reported attacks on mail carriers, followed by Dallas (50), Denver (45), Houston (44), and Chicago (43).

To help reduce attacks, USPS is urging pet owners to keep dogs secured during delivery hours and to remember that even friendly pets can react unexpectedly when protecting their territory. The agency's annual Dog Bite Awareness campaign aims to raise awareness and improve safety for both mail carriers and pets.
