Kilo, a 4-year-old rescue dog adopted from Big Dog Ranch Rescue, has become a valued member of the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue team in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he helps support firefighters and first responders.
Trained by his handler, retired firefighter and paramedic Julie Dudley, Kilo is a certified therapy dog and one of the first certified Peer Crisis Response K9s on the state team in Palm Beach County. He provides comfort and emotional support to firefighters and other first responders following stressful or traumatic incidents.
Fire officials say Kilo plays an important role in promoting mental wellness and reducing the stigma around mental health. His calm and affectionate nature helps create opportunities for conversation, support, and healing within the department.
