Children's Mercy Kansas has welcomed its newest "dog-ter," Benny, a 2-year-old golden retriever mix who helps bring comfort to children receiving medical care.
Working alongside a certified child life specialist, Benny supports young patients by joining bedside activities, taking walks, and offering calming companionship during treatments.
Benny is the first therapy dog at the hospital's Overland Park location. His placement was made possible by the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation, which has placed more than 50 therapy dogs in hospitals nationwide since 2018.
