
Miller, a 6-year-old, 110-pound black Labrador, died after allegedly being left inside a Waggles Pet Resort van for several hours during extreme heat in Wheeling, Illinois.
Miller had been picked up from his family’s home in Deerfield around 9 a.m. Temperatures reached the mid-90s that day. His owner said the family was contacted shortly after 4 p.m. and told Miller had died. He was reportedly found unresponsive inside a crate in the company van.
Waggles Pet Resort owner Ross Niehaus has been charged with one count of cruel treatment of animals. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Miller’s death.
