A family is seeking the community’s help in identifying a man whose dog fatally attacked their beloved pet, Oreo, during a walk in Coventry, Rhode Island, last weekend.

According to owner Henry Brown, the incident occurred when an unleashed dog, described as resembling a pit bull, approached and attacked Oreo. Brown said the other dog’s owner grabbed his animal and left the scene. Oreo was rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital but had to be euthanized because of the severity of his injuries.

The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover more than $3,000 in veterinary expenses. Coventry police confirmed that the incident is under investigation, and the family is urging anyone with information about the man or his dog to contact authorities.
