A 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier named Luna has been found alive after surviving more than a month alone in Yellowstone National Park.
The dog, from California, disappeared on September 10 after escaping from a campground cabin while her family was visiting a nearby attraction.
Animal rescuer Katie Boucher, president of the Norris Ark Training and Recovery Center, led the search for Luna. Despite cold temperatures, coyotes and challenging rescue conditions, Luna survived in the wilderness, drawing on instincts developed during her early life on the streets. Yellowstone officials confirmed that Luna was safely captured on Wednesday, just days before seasonal campground and road closures threatened to further complicate the rescue effort. She was taken to a veterinarian after her capture, with further details about her condition still pending.
