A dog named Fiona was rescued in Vallejo, California after being found trapped and treading water inside a deep cistern for at least two hours, according to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control.
Officers responded Monday to reports of a possible fall into a well at an unoccupied home, later confirmed to be the same dog reported missing by her owners. After hearing her cries, deputies and firefighters entered the property and located her submerged several feet below ground.
The Vallejo Fire Department used specialized equipment to safely lift the exhausted dog from the water. Fiona was treated for minor injuries and is now recovering at home.
