A four-year-old poodle-husky mix named LouLou was found alive after spending approximately 50 hours alone in Alaska’s Chugach State Park following an avalanche on October 10.
The dog had been hiking with two experienced mountaineers when the avalanche swept the men roughly 500 feet down a mountain ridge. Both men survived but sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
After learning what happened while traveling overseas, Lauren Padawer, the girlfriend of one of the hikers, coordinated efforts to find LouLou, mobilizing local outdoor enthusiasts and pet groups. An Apple AirTag worn by the dog provided crucial location signals, helping searchers narrow the search area. After an extensive rescue effort involving volunteers and aerial searches, LouLou was found alive and largely uninjured. Her survival and the community’s determination brought a heartwarming end to a frightening ordeal.
