A two-month-old Dachshund puppy in Florida narrowly survived a life-threatening rattlesnake bite after being attacked in her backyard in Melbourne.
The puppy, Keeley, was bitten below the eyes and rushed to the Animal Specialty & Emergency Center of Brevard in critical condition. Veterinarians said the venom spread quickly through her small body, leaving her unresponsive upon arrival. After two days of intensive treatment and multiple doses of anti-venom, Keeley recovered and was able to return home.
Emergency vets say snake bites become more common as temperatures rise in Florida and are urging pet owners to supervise pets outdoors, avoid tall grass, and seek immediate medical care if a bite occurs.
