Jhonny, a retired Belgian Malinois who served as a U.S. Navy explosive-detection K-9, has reunited with his former handler, Daniel Palentucci, years after their time together in the military.
The pair worked together for about three years, including security missions in the U.S. and an overseas deployment to Syria. Palentucci described Jhonny as his “lifeline,” relying on him to detect explosives and help keep their team safe. When Jhonny retired in 2021, Palentucci flew to Washington state to bring his former partner home.
Now living in Columbia, Pennsylvania, Jhonny is enjoying retirement with long daily walks, treats and plenty of attention. Though his working days are over, some of his explosive-detection instincts still occasionally show.
