The San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) in Texas has welcomed a new therapy dog, Zeus, a 6-year-old Black Lab mix rescued from a South Carolina shelter.
Trained by K9s For Warriors, Zeus is a retired service dog now working with Firefighter and Peer Support Team Lead Matt Valdez to provide emotional support to first responders. He was officially sworn in during a badge pinning ceremony as part of the department’s peer support program.
Since joining SAFD in May, Zeus has already become a comforting presence at the station. The program, provided by K9s For Warriors, has placed nearly 100 therapy dogs with first responder agencies nationwide.
