As thousands of fans attend World Cup matches in North Texas, specialized “vapor wake” detection dogs are playing a key role in stadium security, helping authorities identify potential explosive threats in crowded environments.
The Arlington Fire Department showcased the K-9 units, including Arlo and his handler, bomb technician Manuel Carrillo. Unlike traditional detection dogs, vapor wake dogs can identify trace explosive scents left in a person’s wake, allowing them to spot threats concealed in backpacks, purses, or even suicide vests.
Officials say the dogs provide an important extra layer of security for the thousands of fans attending World Cup events.
