A family in Torrington, Connecticut, is calling their husky a hero after she chased away a black bear that charged toward a young boy in the family's driveway on July 4.

Home security video captured Bella sprinting toward the bear and appearing to nip its hind leg, causing the animal to turn away before she chased it down the driveway. Both the child and Bella escaped the encounter without injuries.

Wildlife officials said the incident ended in the best possible way but cautioned that encounters between dogs and bears can be dangerous. Bella's owner said the brave husky will be rewarded with one of her favorite treats, a T bone steak, for protecting the family.
