An 18-month-old Belgian Malinois named Jager has gone from being surrendered to a Tennessee shelter to becoming a certified disaster search-and-rescue K-9.
Jager was rescued as a puppy by trainer Ali Hemyari of Nashville K-9 and later donated to the Nashville Fire Department. He now works with Capt. Doug Pinkerton as part of Tennessee Task Force 2.
Earlier this month, Jager and three other K-9 teams earned FEMA certification, demonstrating their ability to locate survivors, navigate unstable environments, and work through rubble and confined spaces. Once a dog who might have faced euthanasia, Jager is now trained to help find people trapped after disasters—a remarkable second chance that has come full circle.
