Police K-9 Kano is recovering at home after being found unconscious during a six-hour standoff in Omaha, Nebraska, last week.
Police said Kano was sent into a home to locate an armed suspect who was allegedly hiding inside a wall. Officers later found the K-9 unconscious on the floor and said the suspect had strangled him. Kano received CPR before being taken to a local veterinarian.
Kano is now recovering with his handler, Officer Keele. He is doing well but must clear a few minor medical issues before returning to duty. Despite being sore, Kano returned to the police precinct over the weekend to visit fellow officers and staff. The department expects the K-9 to eventually return to his normal routine—and, of course, chasing tennis balls.
