A new monument unveiled at Butte County Veterans Memorial Park in California honors military working dogs for their role in protecting U.S. troops.
The life-size German Shepherd statue recognizes dogs that have served in every major U.S. conflict since World War II, supporting tasks like patrol, bomb detection, and base security.
Military officials from Beale Air Force Base said the dogs are vital for detecting explosives and defending installations. Officials estimate each dog can save about 150 lives, with thousands saved across U.S. military history. The Oroville monument is the fourth military working dog memorial in California and the first in Northern California.
