The Colorado Avalanche are asking fans to help name their newest service dog in training. The puppy will join the team’s service dog program.
The new dog will train with Freedom Service Dogs in Englewood, Colorado, alongside Maxy, the team’s first service dog in training. Expected to graduate in December, Maxy will assist a veteran with PTSD and mobility challenges. She is learning tasks such as picking up dropped items and waking her future partner from nightmares.
The training program takes about two years and costs approximately $50,000 per dog. Through its partnership with Goodheart, the Avalanche helps raise awareness of service dogs and their impact on people’s lives. Fans can submit name ideas through the team’s social media survey.
