Dane County Regional Airport in Wisconsin has welcomed several new therapy dog teams to its volunteer Pet Therapy Program, bringing the total to 28 certified therapy dog-handler teams.
The therapy dog and handler teams greet passengers, pose for photos, and provide comfort to the nearly 2.5 million travelers who pass through the airport each year. Airport officials say the dogs help reduce travel stress, especially during flight delays, weather disruptions, and other challenging moments.
The volunteer-run program operates at no cost to the airport and has grown significantly since restarting after the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding from just eight teams to 28. Officials hope the program will continue to grow as more volunteers join to help create a welcoming and relaxing experience for travelers.
