Axel, a deaf 3-year-old Dogo Argentino once surrendered to a shelter, is now preparing to support Michigan’s National Guard as a trained ministry dog.

Sgt. Mollie Karazim, his handler, adopted Axel as a puppy and spent years training him to respond to hand and visual commands. Axel has learned more than 50 commands and relies on visual cues rather than verbal instructions, allowing him to work effectively alongside his handler and the unit.

Axel is expected to accompany Michigan’s 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment, during an upcoming deployment. He is ready to put his best paw forward and support his fellow Guardsmen as he serves alongside them.
