A 13-year-old husky named Sierra took a 1,400-mile journey from Florida to Texas to reunite with her owner after being found as a stray and identified through a microchip, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
Sierra had been missing for 12 years before being discovered in poor condition in Brooksville. Her microchip led authorities to her owner in Texas, who had lost track of her years earlier in New Mexico.
After receiving medical care and rehabilitation, she was transported back to Texas with the help of animal welfare partners. Sierra has since been reunited with her owner and is adjusting to life after more than a decade apart.
