Meet Hanalei, a rescued Labrador-Boxer mix in Florida who is turning her second chance into a mission of helping children.
The certified therapy dog has joined Treasure Coast nonprofit Catch the Wave of Hope, which supports child victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking.
Rescued at just three months old, Hanalei now provides comfort at the Treasure Coast Child Advocacy Center during forensic interviews, therapy sessions and potentially court proceedings. Her handler, Sarah Marie Henry, said Hanalei has a natural connection with children and helps them feel safe. Hanalei’s role is about giving young survivors comfort, confidence and hope as they navigate difficult experiences. Catch the Wave of Hope also plans to add two more therapy dogs to expand its support for children.
