From scent to save: Bloodhound K9s track missing woman to a ravine in California

Running Springs,
CA -

A 49-year-old woman in California was rescued after falling about 200 feet into a ravine, thanks to two San Bernardino County Sheriff’s K9s.

The dogs, Keva and Naji, are trained scent-tracking hounds that follow specific human odors using items provided by search teams, such as clothing or personal belongings. After hours of unsuccessful searching near Old City Creek Road, they picked up the woman’s scent from a pillow and quickly led deputies toward a remote ravine.

Their alert helped rescuers locate the woman, who was heard calling for help from below. A helicopter team was then used to safely lift her out and transport her for medical care. Authorities credited the K9s’ precise tracking abilities for the successful rescue.
