The Commerce City Police Department in Colorado is reminding residents that abandoning animals is a crime after two frightened puppies were rescued at Pioneer Park.
The puppies were discovered by a Good Samaritan, and Community Service Officer Nickolaus safely coaxed them into cages for transport. While police said they cannot confirm the dogs were intentionally abandoned, the circumstances suggested they may have been left behind.
The puppies are now being cared for at Riverdale Animal Shelter and will be made available for adoption. Police praised the shelter's staff for helping the siblings find permanent homes and urged pet owners to seek safe alternatives rather than abandoning their animals.
